Free Bangla typing tool

Avro Keyboard is a free software program that lets you type the Bengali language on QWERTY keyboards. You can use Roman letters to write Bangla characters with Avro. The freeware was released as an open-source project in 2003 on March 26 in celebration of Independence Day in Bangladesh.

Bijoy Bayanno is another popular typing software that translates words written on QWERTY keyboards into Bangla font. Both Avro and Bijoy have graphical user interfaces that let you conveniently access the platform. While Avro Keyboard is available on Android, Apple iOS, Linux, Mac, and Windows operating systems, Bijoy Bayanno is only compatible with Mac and Windows PC systems.

Is Avro Keyboard safe?

Avro Keyboard is completely safe to download and install. Developed by OmicronLab, the utility gives Bengali speakers the opportunity to express themselves online. While the original Avro Keyboard application is secure, variations of the open-source app may contain malware. Since Avro does not contain in-app advertisements, you will not have to worry about tracking by invasive spyware while using the tool.

Avro Keyboard is ANSI and Unicode compliant. You can switch between the outputs by clicking on the settings icon within the top bar. While ANSI is optimal for certain applications, the Unicode mode is recommended for most circumstances.

How do I change my Avro Keyboard layout?

Avro Keyboard has a GUI with two main modes: top bar and system tray. The top bar will display icons at the top of your desktop screen. If you click on the logo button, then you can get a variety of options: ‘Avro Mouse’, ‘Spell checker’, etc. You can hover above the ‘Select keyboard layout’ choice to expand the context menu.

The keyboard layouts that are available are ‘Avro Phonetic (English to Bangla)’, ‘Avro Easy’, ‘Bornona’, ‘Munir Optima’, ‘National (Jatiya)’, and ‘Probhat’. The active layout will be marked with a bullet point. Additionally, you can press the ‘Show active keyboard layout’ button at the bottom of the expanded menu.

While OmicronLab released the ‘Avro Easy’ virtual keyboard layout to simplify typing, the Bornona keyboard is known to be the easiest Bangla layout to use. The National keyboard layout is the standard format in Bangladesh. Avro Keyboard is a highly customizable program that lets you make the toolbar transparent. Additionally, you can move the top bar around the screen.

If you prefer to have Avro Keyboard in the system tray instead of the top bar, then you can tap on the logo to select ‘Jump to system tray’. You can click on the upward-facing arrow to open Avro Keyboard in the system tray. If you click on the Avro image, then you can switch the app back to the toolbar view: ‘Restore Avro Top Bar’.

How can I type Bangla on my keyboard?

The second icon in the top bar lets you open a dropdown menu to change the keyboard from the English language to Bangla. You can simply press the interactive button to automatically change the characters. The current language will be shown in the toolbar.

You can select a hotkey from F1 to F12 that will quickly let you switch between keyboards. Additionally, the CTRL and spacebar keys will let you change the mode. Avro Keyboard will track both the Bangla and default keyboard modes throughout all the applications on your PC for a seamless user experience.

How do you type on Avro Keyboard?

Avro Keyboard delivers phonetic-, touch-, and mouse-based typing. You can write Bengali words with Roman numerals to automatically translate the text to Bangla characters with the phonetic feature. A floating preview window will be beneath the letters to let you see the translations in real time. Avro delivers an in-app dictionary with 150,000 Bengali words.

The built-in dictionary lets you completely customize the autocorrect. You can add and edit words within the auto-correct directory. The keyboard layouts let you type easier and quicker with the automatic vowel formation feature. If you type a short version of a vowel, then the long-form will automatically appear.

You can type ‘Reph’ at the end of consonant characters and Avro will automatically move the ‘Reph’ to the beginning of the consonant. Also, you can disable the ‘Auto Reph’. Assamese characters are also possible with all of the keyboard layout options. If you prefer to write using your mouse, then Avro gives you on-screen keyboards.

Both Bangla and English characters are available in the same fonts. The chosen font will stay the same even when you switch between keyboards. You can type Bangla text in Adobe Photoshop, Facebook, Microsoft Office Word, Outlook Express, MSN Messenger, Notepad, etc.

You can install Avro Keyboard onto your PC or get the portable edition. If you have an Apple device, then you can use iAvro. Additionally, ibus-avro is available for Linux systems. The developers made an Avro Keyboard extension for the Google Chrome web browser.

Additional solutions

If you find that Avro Keyboard is not working properly, then you may need to configure your PC to be compatible with Bangla. The developers created a solution to resolve issues with the complex script on PCs. iComplex will let you easily install and uninstall complex scripts on your operating system. iComplex is specifically for older versions of Windows: Windows XP, 2000, and 2003.

Professional tool for typing Bangla

Avro Keyboard is a standard utility that has been used for professional purposes. The lightweight software tracks the Bengali and default keyboards across apps on your PC. The GUI is shown as a toolbar or hidden within the system tray. Avro Keyboard makes typing Bangla characters on QWERTY keyboards easy. Automatic practices let you type words more conveniently with a preview window. Additionally, Avro features a customizable spell checker.
